showcase on ice 2022: alice on ice!

Register Club Skater!
This year marks our first ever story-telling show.  We will build the narrative with group numbers and solos based on scenes from Lewis Carroll’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  It will be our own interpretation of the events in this book, on ice.  We will have scenery, props and help with costumes from Missoula Community Theater!  It will be a very special show.

2022 Showcase Directors: Emily Stone (estone49@gmail.com) and Emily Weiler (weiler.emily@gmail.com)

Showcase on Ice Governing Principles:
1. The Showcase Directors reserves the right to move skaters, combine skaters and create skating numbers as they feel necessary to create the highest quality, most entertaining show possible.

2. Showcase on Ice is a skating performance opportunity, and also is the club’s main fundraising event. Please help with volunteer and fundraising opportunities that coincide with Showcase on Ice to ensure both the success of the show and MFSC operations.

3. Club skaters may perform a solo, or a small group number, and the final scene (Who Stole the Tarts?) and Closing Number (March of the Cards) for one registration fee of $145.  The Lobster Quadrille (aka Dance Number) is an additional $10.

4. Solos are to be choreographed and coached on club ice, by your private coach.  Please let us know if you need help with music or coaching for these numbers.  Small group numbers will be assigned a coach and will practice on the Saturday morning rehearsal time.  Rehearsals for the final scene, closing number, and dance number, plus scene blocking and transitions, will happen on Sunday afternoons.  Plan to be there each and every Sunday.  We need complete dedication to make this rather complex show a success!

5. Skaters will also be part of the scene that their solo, or small group number, appears in.  We will need to spend time off-ice “blocking” these scenes, so plan to spend a little extra time at the rink during March and April to do this.  On ice scene blocking and transitions will happen during the Sunday afternoon rehearsal time.

6. Skaters may be selected at the Director’s discretion to skate in “transitional” segments. Skaters may be asked to perform at any time, even spur of the moment if necessary, to make the show flow or to take up time while technical difficulties are worked out. Some of the transitional segments are developed at the last minute. For those segments the Showcase Directors will choose the skaters in combinations that work best. Transitional number skaters will be selected based on performance needs for the number not skill or age. There is no charge for doing transitional segments.

7. To be eligible for Showcase on Ice, skaters must have no outstanding debt owed to MFSC as of the Performance Fee Deadline of March 31st.

Club Skater Numbers
Requirements
Any skater who is a member of the Missoula Figure Skating Club is eligible to sign-up for Club Numbers if they meet the specified requirements. Please see below for more information on eligibility according to the skater’s skating level.

Solos
Club skaters who have passed their Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field or Adult Pre-Bronze Moves in the Field test are eligible for solos. Solo skaters select their own music and are responsible for their costumes and choreography. To make the show run smoothly, music length for solos is limited. Soloists will be integrated into the scene in which they appear, and as such will be on the ice and participating for a whole scene.  For skaters below juvenile level, the music limit is set to 1 minute.  For juvenile and above levels, the limit is 1:30 minutes. Solos do not have specified rehearsal times. Practice for these numbers during Club Ice, Open Figure, or Public Skate sessions. It is up to these skaters to arrange for their own coaching and choreography.

Club Group Numbers
Club skaters who have passed Basic 3 but have not passed their Pre-Preliminary or Adult Pre-Bronze Moves in the Field test are eligible to appear in a small group number. The Show Directors will assign skaters to these numbers. Small group numbers will be rehearsed on Saturday mornings.
